Anthony M. Spina, DDS, MD

Dr. Spina joined the Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial, and Implant Surgery in 1999. He is a graduate of St. Viator High School, Loyola University, Loyola University School of Dentistry, and the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed both his oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty training and general surgery training at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. Dr. Spina completed a one-year fellowship specializing in facial cosmetic surgery in Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Spina began his career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from 1997 to 1999. During this time he was intimately involved with the academic and clinical training of the oral and maxillofacial surgery residents. He has lectured extensively at both the local and national level. He has devoted many hours to research and is published in numerous journals and current textbooks utilized worldwide.



He is currently on staff at Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines, Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, and St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

Dr. Spina serves on the anesthesia committee of the Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He holds multiple committee positions within the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and was a co-author of the TMJ Surgery section of the parameters of care publication. Dr. Spina has contributed to the oral and maxillofacial surgery resident training examination as a test question author.

Dr. Spina became board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2000. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support.

Dr. Spina’s clinical interests include dentoalveolar surgery including the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, general anesthesia and IV sedation, dental implants and associated bone grafting procedures, dental and facial trauma, facial reconstruction, TMJ surgery, oral pathology, correction of facial deformities (orthognathic surgery), and facial cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Spina is married with three children.
