Why is it called “All on Four”?
This implants approach is so named, because it takes just four implants to support all prosthetic teeth in an upper or lower dental arch/jaw. With traditional implant placement methods, it may take twice as many implants to restore a full arch of teeth.
How can you use so few implants to support so many teeth?
Great question! This innovative system involves our specialists surgically placing the implants in the jawbone to maximize healthy, dense bone. We generally place two implants vertically toward the front of the mouth, in an area where the density of the bone is greater. Then, we place two implants at an angle toward the back of the mouth. We further maximize bone contact and support by positioning the back implants at angles. You can have great confidence that your implants will heal properly, and they will be able to support your new teeth for the rest of your life (as long as you maintain good oral care).

What are the benefits of All on Four over other types of implants?
Also known as “All-on-4®,” this technique is distinctive in many ways. As surgeons, we generally want to minimize the invasiveness of procedures and trauma to natural tissues. We also want to preserve maximum healthy tissues. All on Four accomplishes this by requiring fewer implants and, in turn, fewer surgical sites to “get the job done,” effectively stabilizing your new teeth as a full arch restoration or implant-supported denture. Less invasive treatments are also associated with fewer risks of serious complications, and minimal demands on your body and schedule for healing. You spend less time at our office undergoing treatment, too. All-on-4® is comparatively economical because the implant is the most costly part of the treatment. The fewer implants we need to place, the better off your wallet will be.
Are All on Four implants right for everyone?
No matter how exceptional, no single treatment available at Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery is universally appropriate. With that being said, All on Four is making implants a reality for many patients who might otherwise be precluded from this modern and attractive form of tooth replacement due to extensive bone loss. As a specialty center, our surgeons provide a range of bone grafting techniques. While these techniques predictably rebuild deteriorated bone, not every patient is a good candidate for grafting, nor does every patient desire to undergo an additional procedure. Fortunately, they don’t have to! All on Four approaches are commonly referred to as “graft-less” procedures, because they use the available bone by effectively tilting the back implants. This reduces the need for grafts and allows the implants to be anchored in better quality bone.
