FAQs about predictable, trusted implant care at the specialist’s office

True to our name, Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial & Implants Surgery has developed considerable expertise in all aspects of the dental implant process. As specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Drs Russell Spinazze, Mark Spinazze, and Eliza Drobny are also equipped to provide many complex implant services unavailable at other dentists’ offices. We are the preferred dental office in the Northwest suburbs and Northwest side of the city of Chicago, to whom other dentists refer their patients for tooth replacement, including extensive full-mouth reconstruction or rehabilitation services.

What are implants?

Natural teeth are comprised of roots and crowns. Conventional bridges and dentures account for the crowns part but not the roots. However, when comparing a natural tooth to an implant-supported artificial tooth, you’ll see they have the same basic parts – including the roots that hold the crowns in place and are anchored in the jawbone. So, once inserted in the jaw, the implants are designed to grow with the surrounding bone. They can then effectively function as tooth roots to stabilize the replacement teeth optimally and to keep the bone in the jaw healthy and strong.

How long does it take to get implants?

There is generally a healing period of several months as the bone grows and heals with the implant. But by turning to a specialty practice, we have the in-house expertise and technologies to place hassle-free, single-stage implants. While these implants require minimal healing time, the process is incredibly straightforward. In fact, we may even be able to place the implants at the same time as your teeth extractions, which helps to minimize treatment time and the number of surgeries required to get your new teeth.

If I’m missing a lot of teeth, do I need to get one implant for every tooth?

No! Again, we offer the best implant systems to complete and rebuild your smile. In fact, all it may take is a few implants strategically positioned in the jawbone to support all of the artificial teeth in an upper or lower arch. This feature helps to minimize the costs associated with treatment and the number of implant sites. Options in your future include bar-attachment dentures or All-on-4 dental implants.

What if my bone isn’t strong enough to support implants?

We are here to help and have the skills to do so. For individuals who have been missing teeth or have been wearing conventional dentures for a long time, bone grafting procedures build up the hard tissue to effectively “prepare” the jaw for implants. That way, the jawbone provides an adequate foundation for the crowns, bridges, or dentures attached to the implants. As specialists, we offer minor and major bone grafting, ridge augmentation, sinus lift, and socket preservation techniques.

Many Happy Faces

Dental implants are titanium roots, that are replaced with in the jawbone to resemble a tooth or group of teeth. A screw is inserted through the gums and into the jawbone. A porcelain crown is then attached to the screw to become the new tooth or teeth. They can be used to support dental prosthesis including crowns, dentures, and bridges. Today’s treatments are so natural looking, no one will know you had surgery. There’s approximately a 95% success rate for all implants. With modern advances in dentistry, some implants can be restored immediately with life like all porcelain crowns. For more details ask your dentist.
