The transformative power of reconstructive surgery at Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery

The need for reconstructive surgery may be rooted in conditions as old as you are, or it may arise following an accident, chronic condition, or other trauma. So, surgical interventions are seemingly as vast as the conditions treated with such procedures. Regardless of one’s need, though, our team at Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery have the qualifications and capabilities to safely and predictably restore the health of both the soft and hard tissues of the mouth, face, and jaws from our offices in Mount Prospect, Bartlett, Elk Grove Village, and Chicago, Illinois.

What are some conditions that may require reconstructive surgery?

Generally, serious defects of the mouth and face can arise due to numerous conditions, ranging from acute trauma to disfiguring diseases such as cancers and anomalies that are present at birth or congenitally.

How do you treat these conditions?

Often, the above conditions require significant reconstruction. This type of reconstructive effort must be planned and delivered by professionals, such as our Drs. Russell Spinazze, Mark Spinazze, and Eliza Drobny. Our surgeons hold many current affiliations with hospitals from across the Chicagoland area. Typically, such complex treatments must be performed at the hospital. They include major bone grafts, complex orofacial prosthetics, and soft tissue flaps/grafting procedures.

What do you mean by major bone grafts?

Usually, significant defects in the jaws resulting from injuries, tumor surgeries, and congenital conditions can be repaired using the patient’s tissues. Specifically, the bone may be derived from numerous parts of the body, depending on the size of the defect to be corrected. These areas range from parts of the skull and hip to the knee (tibia). As noted, these treatments typically require a hospital stay and are performed in the OR.

And what are some examples of complex prosthetics?

We are skilled in rebuilding both hard and soft tissues, including the teeth, jawbone, and gums. True to our name, we distinguish with specialized and complete implant care. Implants may be used to “root” or stabilize prosthetic teeth. Likewise, we can heal and regenerate lost or deteriorated bony and soft tissues (gums) to restore the mouth’s health, which supports good aesthetics and proper speech and chewing function.

Why should I trust such complex procedures to Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery?

In part, our specialists participate on tumor boards with many of the region’s top hospitals. This active membership allows for beneficial collaboration with other surgeons. So, we have access to the latest and greatest when it comes to surgical techniques and treatments. We are also highly empathetic to the emotional toll many injuries and defects can take on our patients. It is a real privilege to transform our patients’ lives through our expertise in major reconstructive procedures.
